SKYE

“The Bucking Mare”
Skye, a striking black and white beauty, is a former bucking horse, trained to try and toss riders for entertainment. We don’t know where she was, somewhere out west, likely in Texas, or how she came to be in the possession of ROAR, a rescue located there. She gave birth to a son in early May 2024, and he is the most important thing for her. Many horses severely declined while in the care of ROAR, and facing prosecution, many were handed off to recover elsewhere, including our two new charges.
They should have been safe already, but were not.
Eventually those horses were sold, all 80, for a total of $25 to a dealer. We can guess that this was to avoid further prosecution for neglect. Back into a dealer’s hands, this mare and her colt were sent BACK to auction, where, fortunately, a quiet rep of Skydog Sanctuary won their lives back. Skydog was working behind the scenes to save as many of the ROAR horses as possible, and was also asking rescues to line up to welcome them, behind the scenes. Of course, Rosemary Farm said YES.
We asked for any that may not be as attractive to others, and this mare, with her history of bucking, deserves to never wear a saddle again.
And she deserves to get to raise her son.
We know that here, at Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, she will find a family and finally, finally, be safe.
Skye is:
• a black & white paint mare
• welcomed to The Sanctuary in February 2025
• a New Intake
• in transition *
• fun fact; named in honor of Skydog Sanctuary, who facilitated her “re-rescue” and arrival at Rosemary Farm
* Any equine that we are still evaluating and getting to know following arrival, is in training, or is changing in some way, is in transition. Please feel free to send an email to inquire about their status and future possibilities.
