ASTRO

This enchanting colt is the son of Skye, a former bucking mare from Colorado, who found herself at a ‘rescue’ in Texas, where she gave birth. In the months that followed many horses were declining and starving at this facility and 80 were transferred off the property, including this momma and her son. Transferred again, to avoid prosecution, they were eventually SOLD to a dealer and astonishingly, found themselves back at auction, in mortal danger, early in 2025.

Another rescue, Skydog Sanctuary, purchased back as many of these 80 horses as possible, and privately reached out to other rescues to help. Rosemary Farm welcomed several. Of all the moms and babies, this was the only pair to still be together.

They arrived at Rosemary Farm in the dead of winter in early 2025, and were very carefully unloaded into our icy climes… rescue happens when rescue is needed, whether or not it is convenient. The pair are thriving, as momma Skye slowly relaxes and begins the long journey towards trust. Her son, the engaging baby Astro, only knows her love, and has been spared the full awareness of his story, or how close he came to tragedy. Sanctuary means longterm, committed protection, and Astro will grow up knowing only that.
