“The Rapscallion”
Born in a holding pen on April Fools Day, 2022, after his dam was captured wild from the "Antelope Valley NV" herd, this handsome gray Mustang lingered for four years, his entire life, before he was sold off and quickly flipped for profit, a cycle that is repeated with dire results for too many of these American treasures. Fortunately, our friends at Skydog Sanctuary were there to intervene, if we could provide him, and a Mustang mare, Naomi, with a home.
Griffin joined Rosemary Farm in May 2026, and has emerged as a friendly, engaging, playful young mustang. His best friend is Astro, but he is often seen playing with any and every other equine he can find. With his joyul nature, and his curiosity, his gentling is moving quickly!
The concerning shift in the BLM policies and handling of mustangs, and the vast increase in captured wild horses being sold for pennies, without protection, has resulted in a FLOOD of these wild ones being immediately flipped for profit into kill pens and auctions. Born wild, unhandled, without any tools to understand or navigate the disaster that has befallen their lives, they are at the mercy of the few kind souls trying to protect them. The numbers are taking our breath away, to be honest.
While we can't welcome them all, working arm in arm with Skydog, we can rescue a few. And when they stepped up for four mustangs, some in rough shape, and asked Rosemary Farm to welcome two, we were delighted to say YES!
