“McSteamy”

This very charismatic ladies man was given his name, General Snowplow, by a six year old boy, the son of his only owner before Rosemary Farm. Together they rode and attended shows and enjoyed a loving partnership, and he was retired from work in his early 20's, when his owner sadly passed away. Many horses like Snowplow are too old to work but too young to have their lives end, and they sometimes have nowhere to go. While The Sanctuary hopes that every horse is cared for at home with their family, in some cases, there is no one left to provide that care. This is how Snowplow joined Rosemary Farm as the Holiday Miracle horse in December 2016.

What a big lovable flirt this horse was! A draft cross, light chestnut brown with a wide blaze and very expressive eyes, he was also very pushy, and had a reputation for tossing riders he didn't like. When a being has known love, it is easy to find love again, and Snowplow was a very happy horse at The Sanctuary. He adored visitors, and attention, and blossomed in his new home. He chose a younger girlfriend Ruby, and together they were a formidable and beautiful pair.

As a 30 year old senior, Plow enjoyed what every horse should; good food, grooming with friends, rolling in the dirt and bucking around a field when the mood strikes. The camera adored him and he graced the April 2018 cover of The Holistic Horse magazine in a stunning photo by the talented Carien Schippers (link). His other claim to fame was ‘going viral’, when he literally plowed a path thru the snow for his love Ruby and pal, Rudy the mini-mule, after a particularly big storm in Winter 2019 (link). ‘Plow-Plow’ left a big hole in the hearts of our team and friends around the world when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge in September 2021.
