Equine Caregiver

Full Time Hourly Position

The primary responsibility of the Equine Caregiver is providing daily care to ensure the well-being of our rescue horses. You will be assigned to 1-2 barns or herds and take full responsibility for your assigned equines each day. This is an individual contributor role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and feed grain and mash for equines in assigned group as needed

  • Administer medications to equines in assigned group

  • Turn in / turn out equines in assigned group

  • Participate in training and enrichment activities with the equines in assigned group

  • Monitor health of the equines in assigned group

  • Report any concerns (eating issues, behavioral issues, injuries)

  • Ensure equine environment (stalls, barn) is cleaned daily and set with hay and water

  • Other activities as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years experience working with equines in a caregiver role

  • Familiar with basic medication and care protocols

  • Familiar with common equine health issues

  • Willing and able to perform all responsibilities and duties

  • Inspired to learn and improve

  • Demonstrates and maintains a positive and respectful attitude

  • Able to work independently with limited supervision

  • Strong team player always willing to help others

  • Able to perform strenuous physical labor, and consistently lift and carry at least 50 pounds unassisted

  • Capable of working in harsh/all weather conditions

  • Willing and able to work weekend and holiday shifts

  • Equine sciences education or vet tech training a plus

  • Prior animal rescue experience a plus

  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States

Schedule

  • 7:00am - 3:00pm with one hour lunch break

  • Five (5) days a week including at least one weekend day

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay commensurate with experience, with opportunity for increases with excellent performance

  • Paid time off, sick days, holiday pay
