We let Plummy go from her earthly body today, much sooner than we hoped, much later than she was due. Shame on whoever kept this mare in a barn or field and did nothing as she worsened, over a long, long time. And then dumped her at auction.
Plummy had a tremendous spirit, one that reached out that day at auction and asked for HELP and was heard. As a result, she enjoyed eight precious days of a bedded stall, fresh food, a warm blanket, and being seen. She had value, and we knew it, but we met her too late. So Plummy was given the only thing left we could offer, and that was release from pain.
Mercy pulls are hard on because we crave seeing a recovery. But the gift they give is priceless; a final chapter of love. Who doesn't want to be seen? And if ignored ones whole life, isn't it even more precious to at least be seen before one dies?
We hope so. We are actually betting on it.
Fare thee well Plummy, dance now with painless limbs in a land of no halters, green grass, and respect.
