“Proud and Loyal”

With a much anticipated warm up on a winter morning came an unexpected loss, as we had to bid farewell the handsome senior gentleman, Jet.

Jet joined Rosemary Farm long ago, in 2012, and went out almost immediately on an adoption because he was handsome, kind, and trained (actually he had done some polo in earlier years). He was born with turned out front hooves, but with proper trimming, he was sound enough to be a successful riding horse. He and his lady love Heidi went out together, and together, almost seven years later, they returned. We keep up with our adopters and the horses come back if there is need. In this case, Jet and Heidi returned, and regained health, but were pulled from any further placements, and found home again in the hills of Rosemary Farm.

Jet was a very proud, petite Arabian gelding, like many of his breed, loyal and hot and very personable. Born grey, he faded to nearly white with his 28+ years. A former athlete, he was quite the 'ladies man', which could get him in trouble! Friends may recall the drama with Leona and Fannie, as Jet's eye wandered and he struggled to keep all the girls, but Heidi was always there for him. As he aged, he wanted to 'go' more than his body would often allow. This happens, and the ego must be tended to as much as the body, and great care was taken to make sure that Jet had Heidi near always.

This morning, Jet was discovered with a catastrophic leg break, while safe in his stall. Our amazing local vet was able to come right away to help let him go, with all of his favorite humans around. We were not expecting to say goodbye today but sometimes things happen. There was no precedent for this accident.

We mourn our friend, but are so happy that we gave him everything we could, shepherding this sweet, sweet horse, to old age, and being by his side as he passed.

For those who cared about Jet, and who support Rosemary Farm, know that we all did well by him, and we will miss him.

This is Sanctuary, it is often care right until the end.
