NOELLE
One night just before Christmas, what feels like a million years ago but was actually 15, both Rosemary Farm Sanctuary and Squirrelwood Sanctuary were represented at an auction. It was dark and cold and gloomy in the back aisles where we prowled, looking for any horse that might need us, instead of being on the road to see family, like normal people. We laughed at our weirdness and kept making the rounds.
Both Rosemary Farm and Squirrelwood stepped up for some Appaloosa orphans that night, and Squirrelwood also said “Yes” to this castoff Standardbred cross mare who could no longer “do the job”. Often a lameness from overworking renders these wonderful horses ‘useless’ before they are even 20 years old, and this mare was lucky that Squirrelwood picked her to save, giving her a lifetime in peace until they closed their doors.
Noelle was the last horse at Squirrelwood who needed a place to go and Rosemary Farm had promised to be the safety net for any final horses, if needed, so we are delighted to bring her home.
