GEMMA
Welcomed to the Sanctuary - December 2020
Crossed the Rainbow Bridge - January 2025

Donations may be made in Gemma’s name to Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, to help the next equine in need.
“The (Mini) Brains”
The incomparable mini Gemma has left the building.
Seen peacefully over the Rainbow Bridge, with a gentle escort, after a morning in the sun, eating forbidden hay with her mini family, this was the last gift we could offer. Her body continued to fail. She was intelligent, funny, beautiful, impish, and a pleasure to call friend. Rescued a few years ago, she is preceded in death by her daughter and her niece, who were too damaged upon rescue to save; she leaves behind Snow (either daughter or sister was never confirmed), Evie (good friend and sometime frenemy) and new friend Bunny, as well as a host of humans who love her.
This is Sanctuary, as we try to find solutions until there are no more and the hard decisions must be made.
Thank you for being part of Gemma's wonderful, extended family.
Travel lightly Gemma, tossing that fiece tiny head, on your best floaty steps. We will see you again.
Gemma’s Story
What a smart, smart little mare Gemma was; we often imagined her taking night classes towards a philosophy degree! And so tiny, Gemma was the smallest horse at Rosemary Farm! She enjoyed grooming with Snow ( either her sister or daughter) and dedicated time in a private stall, where she received special food to keep her healthy. Gemma was a senior and has some complex issues, but got plenty of TLC.
Both Gemma and Snow were surrendered on Christmas Eve, 2020 with a larger group of horses, after their owner died. It was a difficult save, because they suffered from severe, long term neglect, so everyone is delighted that they recovered and had many good years at Rosemary Fam (read story here).
